*Position Philosophy: *The duties of the Assistant Store Manager position are to be performed by demonstrating and encouraging Northwest Hardware’s core values in order to achieve our vision of being the place that locals can rely on, and visitors must see.
The Assistant Store Managers are second in command.
They are responsible for ensuring that associates provide exceptional customer service while achieving sales goals as well as support and help the Store Manager in their effort to consistently provide an environment that is a great place to work and a great place to shop.
Assistant Store Managers help set the tone for the whole store, they must consistently do more than is required and frequently more than is expected.
This includes ensuring customer satisfaction, driving sales, building sales skills and product knowledge.
Effective Assistant Store Managers maximize productivity and profitability by balancing sales and expenses, identifying sales opportunities, and setting customer service standards.
They must demonstrate knowledge of the store’s purpose and goals and have the skills to help associates achieve those goals.
They must be willing to work alongside employees to get the job done.
An enthusiastic, positive, and supportive attitude is essential.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* *Strategic Planning:* • Participate in the development of the store plan as requested by Store Manager.
• Monthly budget review and planning meetings with Store Manager • Proactively provide input to continue to grow store and team.
*Sales & Operations:* • Maintain a floor presence and a willingness to do whatever needs to be done to maintain and improve our store.

) • Have a complete working knowledge of and willingness to use cash register/point of sale (POS), Time Clock software, inventory audits and outs, paint mixer, paint computer, key machine, ability to re-key locks, repair, and re-screen, and operate the forklift.
• Participate in review of store walks with Manager to identify opportunity areas and correct all issues with a sense of urgency for results.
• Participates in the Manager on Duty responsibilities when requested by the Manager.
• Monitor inventory levels in conjunction with Store Manager on a monthly basis to ensure store maintains a high level of accuracy.
• Coordinate the overall daily supervision of retail staff to ensure that monthly sales performance goals are met, and company procedures are followed accurately.
*Sales & Operations:(cont.
)* • Understand daily workload of all departments and positions within the store and delegate daily workload on Dexter to all associates to meet merchandising and visual presentation standards and store priorities.
• As directed by Store Manager, conduct 1-2-1s process to provide feedback for improvement and growth opportunities.
Assure all employee observations, zone checklists, and all best practices are conducted.
• Responsible for supporting the Store Manager to ensure that a merchandise plan to include monthly endcaps, hot zones, and seasonal flips and all merchandising on floor are completed per store calendar.
• Responsible for knowing and driving completion of projects on overall store calendar.
• Responsible for assisting Store Manager in cutting payroll hours where appropriate to reduce payroll expense.
• Assist Store Manager in hiring of staff.
• For disciplinary actions, thoroughly documents all conversations and actions for employee file.
Works with Store Manager and General Manager when terminating employees.
• Participate in all store meetings (as needed) to communicate store/company goals, update the team on seasonally relevant topics and provide appropriate training.
• Counts down cash drawers at the end of the day and petty cash if necessary.
• Reconciles daily bookkeeping records if assigned.
*Customer Service:* • Promote Customer Service as the #1 Priority.
This must be accomplished on a daily basis through coaching, monitoring employee’s performance and interactions on the sales floor.
• Regularly promote and teach the concept of Core Values on the sales floor, leading by example and through coaching.
Use huddles and store meetings as the venue to communicate and reinforce the concepts.
• Respond immediately to all customer complaints and resolve them within 48 hours.
• Participate in all store huddle.
• Budgets and Payroll • Control Overtime hours to meet budget.
• Proactively cut payroll hours when sales do not support staffing levels.
*Inventory Control:* • Review retail inventory and overstock to reduce shrinkage, maintain appropriate stock levels, and ensure inventory reporting accuracy.
• Be cognizant of internal and external theft and bring any issues to the manager immediately.
*Communications:* • Through Dexter - keep store staff sufficiently informed about plans, projects, policies, and procedures, such that all staff members have an appropriate and positive level of buy-in to all levels of store operations.
• Check communications received via email from corporate and/or customers per day.
*Personal Development:* • Attend trainings and meetings as required by Store Manager.
• Utilize IDP process to identify development goals and trainings.
• Actively seeking ways to continue to grow and develop in your leadership.
*Coaching and Training:* • Assist and recommend to Store Manager appropriate training for store associates and support all staff training requirements on a monthly basis (New-Hire orientation, on-the- job training, and vendor training).
• Assist with hiring, training, and development of retail staff with goals for growth and success in their positions, provide performance feedback and recognize accomplishments.
• Participate in store meetings as needed to communicate store/company goals and provide appropriate training to the staff.
• Utilize daily huddles to facilitate training topics and coach the staff.
• Actively participate in the Core Values recognition program *Safety Compliance and Housekeeping:* • Maintain high level of housekeeping throughout the store, both inside and out.
• Enforce safety policies and procedures; is a safety role model.
*Additional Requirements:* • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• College preferred or vocational training.
• Must have 3-5 years previous management experience and retail knowledge or proven experience as a Northwest Hardware Supervisor.
• Technically skilled in basic computer knowledge and software (such as, Word, Excel, Email, internet research) • Must have good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to provide motivation and leadership to employee’s store-wide and foster a positive team culture.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills with ability to place proper priorities on work to be done.
• Ability to handle multiple products/tasks with high attention to detail and follow through.
