Up for sale is gorgeous 1966 Gibson J-45adj with an LR Baggs HiFi professionally installed.
This is among the most well-preserved vintage guitars I’ve ever seen.
It has almost certainly lived most of its life in a case, as the cherryburst finish is as vibrant and unfaded as they come.
Everything on the guitar is original – tuners, bridge, adjustable saddle, pickguard, etc.
– except for a few upper frets, which Glaser Instruments here in Nashville replaced after running a PLEK scan on it.
This guitar is in such good shape, in fact, that Joe Glaser submitted a photo of it to an online registry of Gibson guitars as a reference example of what a mid-’60s J-45 should look like!
It sounds excellent as well, just like an old Gibson slope-shoulder should, although I imagine it will continue to open up as it is played in.
It’ll live on my Tone Traveler until it sells which will open up the sound even further.
There are only a few very minor spots that make this guitar qualify as less-than-mint, including a scratch on the edge of the top on the lower bout (pictured) and a tiny scratch next to the soundhole.
You can also see where the two pieces of mahogany come together on the top but it doesn’t appear to be a crack that goes through.
I’m happy to send a video of the inside upon request to verify.
There are a handful of other very minor surface scratches and smudges.
The nut width on this J-45 is 1 9/16”.
Just a phenomenal vintage find! Asking $3,700 plus shipping.
Comes in vintage Gibson case with plush red lining.
