JOB TITLE: Math and Science Tutor DEPARTMENT: Math and Science Tutoring Center PAY RANGE: $15.
75 per hour STATUS: Temporary, part-time up to 19 hours per week.
This position will work between Monday and Saturday, flexible hours within demand of tutoring center traffic; it may not work during holiday closures, spring break or between semesters.
Temporary duration is December 2023 to May 10, 2024.
Non-benefit eligible.
FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled SUMMARY Provides math and science tutoring in the Math and Science Tutoring Center and Foundational Math Center to support student success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES Tutors students in math and science skills through individualized and small group tutoring sessions.
Assists students with study skills and learning strategies to enhance math and science competencies.
Reviews class material with students by discussing text, working solutions.
to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
Actively promotes a culture of customer service within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Monitors students logging into the tutoring centers.
Proctors course assessments in the Foundational Math Center.
Administers math placement tests in the Foundational Math Center.
Reports to Coordinator of Math and Science Tutoring.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS One year of tutoring experience.
Previous math and science teaching and/or tutoring experience.
Availability to tutor for the academic year.
Familiarity with TI-84 calculator, Google Sheets, Geogebra, and/or Desmos.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge in math through calculus and competency in one or more of the following: chemistry, physics, or statistics.
Possess academic integrity.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to different environments.
Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the community.
Ability and willingness to provide quality customer service.
Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.
Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.
Ability to follow and issue directions.
Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse, traditional and non-traditional backgrounds.
Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to pass a criminal background check.
Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.
This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.
S.
Department of Labor and Industry.
Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
